Will WhatsApp and iMessage work?
Will WhatsApp work with an eSIM?
Yes. WhatsApp works perfectly fine with an eSIM. The app only uses your phone number once during the initial verification process. After that, WhatsApp only needs an internet connection to function. This means you can continue using your WhatsApp account even if you remove or replace your SIM card, as long as you still have internet access.
Will iMessage work with an eSIM?
Absolutely. iMessage on iOS devices works over the internet, so you won’t have any issues using it with an eSIM. With iMessage, you can send and receive messages from other Apple users worldwide without needing an international data plan.
You don’t even need a phone number to use iMessage—an email address linked to your Apple ID is enough to send messages via Wi-Fi or mobile data.
Troubleshooting iMessage Setup
If iMessage isn’t working as expected, try these steps:
- Open Settings → Messages and make sure iMessage is switched on.
- Tap Send & Receive and check that your Apple ID email is selected, while your phone number can remain unchecked.
- Restart your device:
- Press and hold the volume down button + side button until the power slider appears.
- Slide to power off, then wait 30 seconds.
- To restart, press and hold the side button until the Apple logo shows.
