2Does Worldcitisim track your internet activity or location?
Your privacy is important to us. Worldcitisim does not monitor or store your web browsing activity, and we do not track your device’s physical location. What you do online remains private.
What data is collected?
To comply with legal and regulatory requirements, we retain limited technical connection data only:
- Time of the data session
- Amount of data used (in megabytes)
- Mobile network operator used for the connection
This information is used strictly for compliance and operational purposes — never to monitor your online activity. We do not sell, analyze, or profile your browsing behavior.
3Will WiFi Hotspot / Internet Sharing work with my eSIM?
The Wi-Fi Hotspot (Internet Sharing) feature is supported on all eSIM plans and works on both Apple iOS and Android smartphones. Once your eSIM is installed, you can share your mobile data connection with other devices, just like with a physical SIM.
Troubleshooting
If the Wi-Fi Hotspot option does not appear or isn’t working after installing your eSIM, try restarting your phone. A restart is sometimes necessary after first-time eSIM installation to ensure the device fully activates network settings.
Local network limitations
Wi-Fi Hotspot availability can depend on the local mobile network operator you are connected to. In some cases, hotspot functionality may be limited or temporarily unavailable due to regional or operator-specific restrictions.
4Manual activation of an eSIM
If you can’t scan the QR code for your eSIM, or simply prefer another method, you can activate it by typing in a Manual Activation Code directly on your phone.
- Order your eSIM from Worldcitisim.
- Open the email called “Here is your eSIM”.
- Find your “Manual activation code”.
- For Android phones, use the whole code that follows.
- For iPhone, use only the last part that starts with “TN”.
iOS / iPhone
- Open Settings on your iPhone.
- Go to Mobile / Cellular / Mobile Service.
- Under Mobile/Cellular Plans, tap Add eSIM — the camera screen will appear.
- At the bottom of that screen, tap Enter Details Manually.
- Type in the SM-DP+ address:
consumer.e-sim.global - Enter the Activation Code (only the last part starting with “TN”).
- Leave the Confirmation Code field empty.
- Tap Next and follow the on-screen steps.
Android 13 / Google Pixel
- Open Settings → Network & Internet.
- Tap SIMs (or similar), then tap the + icon to add a SIM.
- Choose Download a SIM instead? or Set up an eSIM.
- When prompted, tap Yes, then Next — the camera screen will open.
- Tap Need help? or Try these troubleshooting steps.
- On the help screen, tap Enter the details manually.
- Type in the Manual Activation Code exactly as it appears in your email.
- Follow the prompts to confirm and add the new data plan.
If your phone doesn’t offer any option to enter eSIM details manually, it most likely does not support eSIM. Contact support@worldcitisim.com so we can help you cancel or refund your order.
5eSIM security & VPN compatibility
Worldcitisim eSIM plans are fully compatible with third-party VPN apps installed on your device. If you already use a VPN service, you can continue using it normally while connected through your eSIM.
The eSIM itself does not include or provide a VPN, but it allows VPN traffic to function without restrictions, making it suitable for travelers, remote workers, and users who prefer an additional layer of privacy.
Common use cases
- Browsing the web with a personal VPN enabled
- Accessing work tools and corporate networks
- Email, messaging, and video calls
- Remote work while traveling
All data connections use end-to-end encryption while in transit across the mobile network, helping keep your data protected between your device and its destination — a secure alternative to unsecured public Wi-Fi.
6Permanently deleting an eSIM from your device
If your eSIM has expired or you no longer need it, you can remove it from your device. Once deleted, the eSIM is permanently deactivated and cannot be reactivated. To use data again, you’ll need to purchase a new eSIM.
iPhone / iPad (iOS)
- Open Settings.
- Go to Cellular (or Mobile Data).
- Select the eSIM plan you want to remove.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Remove Data Plan.
Android
- Open Settings.
- Go to Connections or Network & Internet.
- Open SIM Card Manager.
- Select the eSIM you want to remove and tap Remove.
7Enabling calling and texting with your eSIM (Wi-Fi Calling)
With Wi-Fi Calling (also known as VoIP), you can make and receive calls and texts on your regular phone number using your eSIM’s data connection. If your carrier supports this feature, your phone connects to your home network over the Internet — avoiding roaming charges.
Apps like WhatsApp, Signal, and Viber automatically use your eSIM’s data — no setup needed. Adding an eSIM does not change your WhatsApp number.
Enable Wi-Fi Calling on iPhone
- Open Settings → Cellular (Mobile Data).
- Make sure your Default Voice Line is set to your primary number.
- Under Cellular Plans, select your primary line.
- Turn On This Line ON.
- Find Wi-Fi Calling and enable it.
- Turn Data Roaming OFF for your primary plan.
Not all carriers support Wi-Fi Calling — availability depends on your home carrier, not your eSIM provider. eSIM data plans are data-only and don’t include a local phone number. Always check with your home carrier before traveling to confirm whether any fees apply.
8"Unsupported eSIM" error
If you receive the error “Unsupported eSIM — This eSIM is from a carrier that is not currently supported on this iPhone” after activation, it usually means your iPhone is carrier-locked and cannot accept eSIM plans from other providers.
Check if your iPhone is unlocked
- Open Settings → General → About.
- Find Carrier Lock. If it says “No SIM restrictions”, your device is unlocked. Anything else means it’s locked.
Unlock your device
- Contact your carrier’s customer service (phone or live chat).
- Ask them to unlock your device for use with any carrier.
- Most carriers can complete this remotely (“over the air”).
- Once unlocked, try activating your eSIM again.
If your device shows as unlocked but you still see the error, contact support@worldcitisim.com with your device model and purchase region.
9Fixing the "Unable to Activate eSIM" error on iPhone
If you see “Unable to Activate eSIM — You can try again, or contact your carrier for assistance”, here’s what to do.
- Make sure you have an active internet connection. Your iPhone needs Wi-Fi or mobile data to verify and activate the eSIM. Connect to the Internet and try again.
- Check if the eSIM is already installed. Go to Settings → Cellular → choose your eSIM as the data line. Confirm Turn On This Line is enabled and Data Roaming is on. If listed correctly, it should connect when you arrive in the supported destination.
- Still not installed? Reach out to support@worldcitisim.com and we’ll guide you through the next steps.
10eSIM connectivity troubleshooting
Sometimes your eSIM may show it’s connected, but you still can’t access the Internet. Try these steps before deleting your eSIM.
⚠️ Important: do not remove your eSIM from your device. Follow these steps first.
1. Check that you are in the correct service area
Your eSIM only works in the country it was purchased for. You can install ahead of time but it won’t connect until you reach your destination.
2. Enable Data Roaming
iPhone: Settings → Cellular → your eSIM plan → Turn On This Line + Enable Data Roaming.
Samsung Galaxy: Settings → Connections → Mobile Networks → Data Roaming ON.
Google Pixel: Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs → your eSIM → enable Mobile Data and Data Roaming.
3. Make your eSIM the primary data plan
iPhone: Settings → Cellular → tap Cellular Data and select the eSIM. Samsung: Settings → Connections → SIM Card Manager. Pixel: Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs.
4. Android: check APN settings
- Open Settings → Mobile & Network → your eSIM → Access Point Names.
- Menu → New APN.
- Enter
globaldatain the APN field. Leave username/password empty. - Save and select the new APN.
5. Reset the connection
Turn on Airplane Mode for 30 seconds, then off. Wait up to 15 minutes for 4G/5G.
6. Manually select a network
iPhone: Settings → Cellular → eSIM → Network Selection → Automatic OFF. Pick an available network. Once connected, you can switch Automatic back ON.
If none of these steps work, it could be a network outage or limited coverage in your area. Keep Network Selection on Automatic and check again later, or contact support.
11How to install your eSIM
Start by choosing a data plan for the country you’re visiting. Once your order is confirmed, you’ll receive a QR code by email within a few minutes.
iPhone
- Press and hold the QR code, then select Add eSIM. Or open Camera and scan the QR.
- Follow the on-screen steps. Default settings are fine.
- When done, ensure Data Roaming is ON for the new eSIM.
Android
- Open the Camera app on the phone where you want the eSIM activated.
- Point at the QR. When prompted (usually labeled Data Plan), tap it.
- Complete the on-screen instructions, leaving defaults as they are.
- Once added, turn ON Data Roaming for the eSIM.
Helpful tips
- For best control, enable Low Data Mode (iPhone) or Data Saver (Android).
- Turn off Data Roaming for your primary line to avoid carrier roaming fees.
- Switch the eSIM to your main Mobile Data plan once you arrive.

13Can I still receive calls on my main number while using an eSIM?
In most cases, yes. If your phone supports having a physical SIM and an eSIM active together, your main number should still receive calls.
On iPhones, certain models include Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS), which means both your physical SIM and eSIM stay connected at the same time. How many eSIMs you can keep active varies by model.
Many recent Android devices also feature Dual SIM, often supporting one physical SIM and one eSIM at the same time. Phones equipped with DSDS allow you to make and receive calls, send messages, and use mobile data on both numbers.
Keep in mind that if you’re using your regular mobile provider while abroad, roaming charges for calls may still apply.
14How does an eSIM work?
An eSIM is a built-in, digital version of a SIM card that functions the same way as a physical one — it securely identifies your device and links it to a mobile network. In most cases, you can access 4G or 5G speeds, depending on the network provider, location, and device.
Unlike traditional SIM cards, an eSIM can be activated and reprogrammed remotely, letting you store and switch between multiple eSIM profiles on the same device.
When you purchase an eSIM plan, you’ll select the country where you need service and the amount of data you want. That total data allowance will be available for the full duration of the plan — it won’t reset each day.
15Will WhatsApp and iMessage work?
WhatsApp: yes. WhatsApp only uses your phone number once during the initial verification. After that, it only needs an internet connection. You can keep using your account even if you remove or replace your SIM, as long as you have internet.
iMessage: yes. iMessage works over the internet, so you won’t have any issues using it with an eSIM. You don’t even need a phone number — an email address linked to your Apple ID is enough.
Troubleshooting iMessage
- Settings → Messages → make sure iMessage is on.
- Tap Send & Receive and check your Apple ID email is selected. Phone number can stay unchecked.
- Restart your device. If problems persist, contact support.
