Fixing the “Unable to Activate eSIM” Error on iPhone

If you see the message:

“Unable to Activate eSIM – You can try again, or contact your carrier for assistance.” after scanning a QR code or entering an activation code, here’s what to do.

1. Make sure you have an active internet connection

Your iPhone needs Wi-Fi or mobile data to verify and activate the eSIM. If you’re offline, the activation can’t be completed. Connect to the Internet before trying again.

2. Check if the eSIM is already installed

Sometimes the eSIM gets installed automatically in the background after scanning the QR code. To confirm:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap Cellular (or Mobile Data in some regions)
  3. At the top, tap Cellular Data and choose your eSIM plan so it’s used for data
  4. Go back to Cellular, scroll down, and select your eSIM plan (may appear as “Secondary,” “Personal,” or “Travel”)
  5. Ensure Turn On This Line is enabled
  6. Ensure Data Roaming is turned on

If the eSIM is listed and these settings are correct, it should automatically connect when you arrive in the supported destination—no further action needed.

3. Still not installed?

If your eSIM doesn’t appear after following the above steps, reach out to our support team. We’ll guide you through the next steps to get you connected.
