With Wi-Fi Calling (also known as VoIP), you can make and receive calls and texts on your regular phone number using your eSIM’s data connection. If your carrier supports this feature, your phone connects to your home network over the Internet—avoiding roaming charges.
This means you can stay in touch while abroad without extra costs, as long as your carrier allows Wi-Fi Calling.
WhatsApp and other messaging apps
- Apps like WhatsApp, Signal, and Viber will automatically use your eSIM’s data connection—no setup needed.
- Adding an eSIM will not change your WhatsApp number.
How to enable Wi-Fi Calling on iPhone
- Open Settings
- Go to Cellular (or Mobile Data)
- Make sure your Default Voice Line is set to your primary number
- Under Cellular Plans, select your primary line
- Turn On This Line ON
- Find Wi-Fi Calling and enable it
- Turn Data Roaming OFF for your primary plan
How Wi-Fi Calling works
- Once enabled, your phone will use any available Internet (Wi-Fi or eSIM mobile data) to connect to your home carrier.
- Your status bar may show something like Carrier Wi-Fi (where “Carrier” is your home provider’s name).
- Incoming calls and SMS messages to your primary number will arrive via your eSIM’s data connection.
If you don’t see the option
- Not all carriers support Wi-Fi Calling. If you don’t see the setting under your primary plan, your carrier may not offer this feature.
- Wi-Fi Calling availability depends on your carrier, not your eSIM provider.
Local phone number
- eSIM data plans do not include a local phone number—they are data-only.
About roaming charges
Our eSIM data plans are designed to replace your carrier’s roaming plan and help you avoid extra fees.
General rules:
- Roaming Data Charges: Should not apply if your eSIM is installed correctly and Data Roaming is off for your primary plan.
- International Call Charges: Rarely, some carriers may still bill for calls made over Wi-Fi Calling while abroad.
- International SMS Charges: Similarly, some carriers may bill for SMS over Wi-Fi Calling in certain cases.
📌 Always check with your home carrier before traveling to confirm whether any fees apply when using Wi-Fi Calling abroad.
